NASCAR FANATICS

When I first moved to Atlanta I made a point to attend the Nascar Sprint Cup series stock car race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. With my interest in everyday Americana I thought it would be fun to experience the culture that is part of Nascar in the South. I approach this type of assignment with a stylized documentary view to make images that focus on the authenticity of the moment. The drunken, exuberant, barbecued zaniness away from the racing was a new experience for me. It was a blast to encounter and photograph. There was so much “action” in the infield that the race barely caught my attention.
